In praise of games where nothing chases you
Not every game needs to spike your heart rate. Some of the best mobile experiences I've had this year were the ones that just let me breathe.
Lantern Hollow is exploration with no timers and no threats — you light lanterns in a foggy village and slowly learn its story. Orchard Keeper is farming at the pace of actual seasons. Neither one is trying to hook you with pressure, and somehow that makes them stickier.
There's a design lesson buried in these games. When you remove the stress, everything else has to carry the weight: the art, the sound, the tiny details. Both games nail that. I found myself lingering just to listen.
If your evenings feel busy enough already, these are the games I'd load up. Sound on, brightness down, no rush. That's the whole point.
